Please join us in welcoming Mark Barron to the Avalon team. Mark and his family moved to Canada recently from Scotland to live in Fernie and enjoy the great outdoors.

Mark holds a Chartered Accountant designation in Scotland and is also a Chartered Professional Accountant here in Canada. He has immediately provided positive contributions to the Avalon team through his experience and compassion for clients and coworkers.
In addition to his professional contributions, Mark has also inspired the team to create the Great Avalon Bake-off competition. Not to typecast him too much, but Mark may have inadvertently volunteered as the voice of Avalon with easily the best accent of the group.
Tell us a bit about your work and school background
In a previous life I was a member of the British Sailing Team as an athlete and coach, I then saw the light and trained as an accountant. Before moving to Canada, I had been running my own businesses in Scotland for the past 7 years.
What interested you about joining Avalon?
Their use of the latest technology (Xero, Receiptbank etc.), the sort of clients they help, the awesome team, plus that they let me work remotely stuck up here in the mountains!
Other than fun times with spreadsheets and numbers, what activities do you enjoy in your spare time?
I love skiing and mountain biking and generally getting outdoors with the family.
What would your friends say is the strangest thing about you?
Too many to list here...
If you could time travel and attend any concert, what year would you travel to and who would you go see?
Mid Eighties to see U2, around the War album time. But really I am not that old…..
Do people call you Lord Barron or is saying Lord and Baron redundant?
I was nicknamed Baron Greenback (hint: Dangermouse) at school, but generally you only need to use the Lord Barron when I am having tea with the queen.
