WE’RE HIRING - SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

THE ROLE

We are a growing online accounting services company and need a Senior Accountant to grow with us in our Victoria office. You will work with enthusiastic team members who know that quality of life and enjoying your work is as important as getting your work done.  We don’t have the typical busy season of most accounting firms, so if you’re tired of overtime, Avalon could be a good fit for you. Although you will be based out of Victoria, you can choose to work remotely or in the office - pick up your laptop and head to Costa Rica for a month for a working vacation.

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing deliverables for a group of clients with the help of two junior accounting staff members.  This will include tasks such as:

  • Supervising junior staff to complete weekly and monthly bookkeeping, to compile annual financial statements, and prepare personal and corporate tax returns.

  • Preparation and delivery of financial reports with an emphasis on helping clients understand what information is important to their business.

  • Improving bookkeeping and financial reporting processes.

  • Educating clients and helping to answer their accounting and tax questions.

As we are growing, so will the role. We promise it won’t be boring!

YOU

  • Are based in Victoria or are willing to move here

  • Have a keen interest in entrepreneurship and small business

  • Able to work well within a team to meet various bookkeeping and tax related deadlines.

  • Are tech savvy and interested in learning and researching the latest apps.  We always want to know if there is a better way to do things.

  • Have experience using Xero (helpful, but not required)

  • Bring a positive mental attitude to all you do

  • Are organized and not afraid of a challenge

  • Are comfortable speaking with clients and explaining complex concepts in an easy to understand manner

  • Hold a CPA designation in Canada

  • Are open to flexible working - we need you to be available, but we won’t schedule you.

  • Think that we would be a good fit for you
