What Does Dext Do?
Dext is a software application that allows business owners to electronically capture and store their receipts.
Supporting documentation is securely stored electronically so it’s available on any computer or connected device. No more need for the shoe-box full of receipts.
After making a purchase, the business owner uploads the receipt to Dext.
The software then uses optical character recognition to extract information from the document. No more manual entry.
Extracting the data helps eliminate user error. Dext will separate out:
- Date of purchase
- Where the purchase was made (supplier name)
- Amount of purchase
- Sales tax paid
- Currency of purchase if available on the receipt
Now that all of this information is recorded electronically, Dext can be connected to bookkeeping software such as Xero to really streamline things.

Use Cases for Dext
Dext is all about capturing supporting documentation electronically so you don’t need to worry about the shoe box full of receipts.
It is great for sole proprietors that just need a better way to organize their receipts.
Small to Medium Sized Businesses
Dext really shines for businesses with multiple owners or employees paying for things and submitting receipts.
Not everyone is good at remembering to keep track of their receipts and Dext makes this a lot easier.
Dext also makes expense reports much easier by allowing employees to submit their supporting documents electronically.
Once submitted, the receipts can easily be added to an expense report based on the user that submitted them.
Dext also helps bookkeepers by automating a lot of data entry. The optical character recognition reads your documents and extracts key information.
Dext then connects to your accounting software to avoid time consuming manual entry and the potential errors that come along with it.
