The Problem: Our attention is under assault. The Internet, smartphones and particularly social media all conspire against us to set our monkey brain aflutter.
This month, we instituted a new tradition at Avalon: Our Value of the Month. We decided to start with Focus (No Squirrels Allowed) for a number of reasons:
Staying focused and being productive can feel like alchemy. We have productive and unproductive days, but it often feels like there is no rhyme or reason to when we are switched on and when we are just bleh. However, there are ways to increase your strike rate and have more productive days.
We are so happy to welcome Samantha Close, our newest Associate here at Avalon. When we first read Samantha’s application, her intelligence and fun-loving personality shone through in her writing. Meeting her in person only confirmed those qualities and we also found out that she’s got a whole bunch of enthusiasm to go along with it! Samantha has a tonne of great stories to tell in between getting shit done (she may be the fastest task finisher on Vancouver Island)!

It’s rainy today and kind of grey outside, reminding me that November and December often have less than a handful of sunny days here in Victoria. So, instead of writing about tax rules or accounting tips let’s have some fun and go to the movies!
When I first spoke to Jenn I could tell that we had found someone who was both passionate about helping small businesses and who would be great at it too! Jenn is empathetic and diligent, plus her outgoing personality and sense of humour will make it feel like you’ve known her for years. Thanks to her position as Onboarding Manager, all of the new businesses we work with will have the good fortune of meeting Jenn. Here’s a brief interview so you’ll get to know her a bit too.
