We would like to introduce you to our newest team member, Jonathan L Candel BMus MMus CPA, or as we like to call him, Jon, or sometimes Jono.
You will most often see Jon as a floating head on your screen as he lives way out in the middle of nowhere. We can sometimes convince him to make the arduous trek into the office for our scheduled, mandatory fun (sometimes it's hard to get the team to stop working so we have to demand that fun begins at 3pm SHARP!).
Jon is a fantastic addition to the team and we are thrilled that he has decided to join us. Enough out of me, I'll let Jon fill you in on some of the more important details.
Tell Us a Bit About Your Work and School Background.
I studied music in university, obtaining my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Trombone Performance. After freelancing and teaching music privately for a couple years, I decided to go back to school for accounting. I earned my Post-Degree Diploma in Accounting from Camosun College, and then my CPA in 2017. While earning my CPA, I did a co-op term at a software company and then articled at another small accounting firm in Victoria. I joined Avalon in October 2017 while continuing to perform on trombone with various groups around town.
What Interested You About Joining Avalon?
I had previously worked with Joe and Paul and I knew that we would make a great team. Avalon’s values really resonate with me - I really enjoy working with smart, enthusiastic people who don’t take themselves too seriously. Also, Avalon’s use of technology allows me the flexibility to work from home, or wherever I decide to be!

Mr. Rogers or Mr. Dressup?
Mr. Rogers - definitely watched more when I was a kid. Also, I went to grad school in Pittsburgh, where Mr. Rogers was from and where he made his show. I lived in his neighborhood!
